Citizen's Academy

The Sheriff’s Office Citizen’s Academy is designed to give participants a working knowledge of the duties and responsibilities of the Sheriff’s Office.  Academy attendees will receive classroom and hands-on instruction at several different locations.  Topics will include tours and an overview of the Corrections and Operations Divisions, driving skills, car stop techniques, field sobriety testing, building searches, defensive tactics, use of force, and more. The academy is a seven week program that meets Thursday evenings and for two full Saturdays. Participants must be Douglas County residents and 18 years of age or older.

Sheriff Jay Armbrister has had a long standing goal of providing a Citizen’s Academy for the residents of Douglas County.  His hope is that this and future academies will build a greater public awareness of the essential role the Sheriff’s Office plays in serving the community.  The Sheriff has seen how academy participants as well as Sheriff’s Office staff have benefited from the experience. The success of the program has assisted us in meeting the future needs of the citizens of Douglas County.
