The Sheriff's Office Patrol Division is enhanced with a K-9 unit consisting of a K-9 and a Deputy handler. The K-9 unit is a valuable supplement to our manpower. The K-9 and handler are certified by a recognized law enforcement canine organization.
The K-9 unit is able to provide assistance in many categories such as tracking of missing persons or suspects; locating evidence; building searches for suspects in hiding; and detection of concealed narcotics; and crowd control.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office K-9 is a German shepherd named Kelo, handled by Deputy Joey Frost.
K-9s are trained to obey their handler; because of their specialized training the public should not attempt to approach or touch these K-9s without the permission of their handlers. Acts of aggression, even in play, can have serious consequences.
If your group would like a demonstration with our K-9, please contact the Patrol Lieutenant.
