Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Hosts Its Third Citizen’s Academy
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications to attend the department’s third annual Citizen’s Academy. The academy begins August 23, 2012 and concludes October 4, 2012. Classes meet every Thursday evening from 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM. Two additional Saturday sessions will meet on August 25th and September 8th from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

This year the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce initiated the Valor Public Safety Awards Program which recognizes first responders for acts of dedication and courage that have saved lives in Douglas County.

Project Lifesaver

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has partnered with the Lawrence Pilot Club to initiate Project Lifesaver in Douglas County. The Project Lifesaver program has trained and equipped the Sheriff’s Office with technology that assists during searches for individuals with cognitive conditions who tend to wander.
